OUR STORY

The Evergreen Folly is an 18-acre evergreen farm outside Springville, New York, owned by Kris and Bill Ryan. It was founded in 2008 by Kris’s father, George Schichtel, a lifelong nurseryman who, in “retirement,” set out to test the hardiness and landscape value of unique evergreen varieties. He called it The Folly—a nod to an 80-year-old planting trees that take nearly a decade to grow. The Folly brought George joy and fulfillment as he grew and harvested trees into his 90s.

Kris and Bill purchased the farm from George in July 2021, just before his passing, and formally established The Evergreen Folly, LLC in 2024 —and began a folly of their own. Today, the farm offers both traditional and distinctive varieties of evergreens and boughs, honoring George’s enduring love of trees and life.
